Artist: Cân Bardd 

This atmospheric black metal that ranks amongst the best, if not taking the crown. My first listen of The Last Rain blew me away and it has become a regular listen for years, particularly when I am hiking or in a forest. The sounds are perfectly at home in the mountains or deep in the woods, off the trail amongst the living and fallen trees, undergrowth, and moss. 

The newest album, Devoured by the Oak, takes such feelings and nature worship and cranks it to eleven. Maintaining the core sound, the music evolves and grows organically, stunning you with fresh and new beautiful experiences every song. Every song is fantastic, and I could heap praise upon them all, but I want to call out Crépuscule in particular, as it is perfection. From 1:45 on, this song gives me everything I want in this style of music. 4:10 is where it really starts to build, raising the emotional stakes and welling up feelings deep inside myself that I can't quite describe, before culminating at 7:00 to 8:50 into something that is simply transcendental. 

These two albums rank in the top of my all time favorite albums. In the spirit of transparency, I have not quite found the same love for the first album, Nature Stays Silent. I'm not disparaging it, but it hasn't 'clicked' for me. 

I highly recommend giving Cân Bardd a listen and supporting the man behind it, by buying the album(s) or getting some of the (extremely limited) merch remaining through the direct bandcamp or the label's bandcamp. There's also a music video for Une Couronne de Branches, embeded below.
